A Bend in the Road By Nicolas Sparks

A Bend in the Road
By Nicolas Sparks

"Where does a story truly begin? In life, there are seldom clear-cut beginnings, those moments when we can, in looking back, say that everything started”.

Miles and Missy were beyond doubt bounded by true love and a blessed marriage. Missy Ryan, high school sweetheart of deputy sheriff Miles Ryan, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident. There were no answers and no witnesses for Miles, who was suddenly left to raise their six-year-old son, Jonah, alone.

Miles lost his beloved wife and had become a widower at the age of thirty. Jonah lost his caring mother who spent her days showering him with love and attention.

Two years later and since his mother’s death, Jonah has been struggling in school. Jonah’s second grade teacher, Sarah Andrews, dedicates her time, after school hours, to helping him.

Sarah Andrews was married, once, to an amazing man, who was different than other men in many ways. But when Sarah and her husband discovered that she couldn’t bear children, he divorced her. She was left brokenhearted, alone, as well.

Miles and Sarah start to fall in love with each other. They try to mend their broken hearts and start a new life with Jonah.

The person who was driving the car is the narrator of Missy’s death story. “There is something terrible in the moments after waking up, when the subconscious knows that something terrible has happened”. His identity is not given right away, but he tells us his viewpoint on the accident, his guilt, his fears, and his horrible pain. He explains the mistake he had done, and the awful choice he made, by not turning himself in to the police on the right time, which made him responsible for ruining two years of Mile’s life. “My crime didn’t occur the night before. My crime occurred in the kitchen, when I looked at the phone and didn’t make the call.”

The relationship between Miles and Sarah is threatened by a painful secret.

Miles reach out for a new beginning to save his unconditional love. Miles and Sarah’s love story is a true tearjerker, rooted in tragedy, yet the outcome is filled with an incomparable sweetness. It is purely incredible to give love a second chance, one more time, and always one more time. If there is hope and forgiveness, it is possible to love again.

A Bend in the Road is my favorite book of all the books that I have read so far. I was immediately captivated into the story and became a big romance reader after finishing it. There are endless lessons in this wonderful story. The story teaches us that forgiveness is the key to inner peace and the ultimate method that can free us from the past’s guilt and the future’s fears. It is a story of true love and new beginnings.
